Discover Tempura Takashichi

Tempura Takashichi is a hidden gem located in the heart of Shinjuku City, Tokyo, at 36-27 Wakamatsucho, a place that locals and visitors alike have been raving about for its high-quality tempura and authentic Japanese dining experience. For anyone who appreciates crispy, light, and expertly prepared tempura, this spot is a must-visit.

Walking into Tempura Takashichi, the atmosphere is both inviting and intimate, making it an ideal location for both solo diners and groups looking for a cozy meal. The simple yet elegant décor mirrors the focus of the restaurant: serving top-notch tempura made with the finest ingredients.

What sets Tempura Takashichi apart from other tempura restaurants in the area is the sheer quality of the ingredients. Each piece of tempura is crafted with precision, from the batter that’s just the right thickness to the oil temperature that ensures a crisp, non-greasy bite. The seafood, vegetables, and even the rice are carefully selected, so each dish feels like a work of art. For example, their tempura shrimp is always tender and juicy inside, while the batter offers a satisfying crunch, making each bite a delightful contrast.

A key part of the experience at Tempura Takashichi is the way the tempura is served. It’s not just about the food itself; it’s about the artistry and care that goes into every step. The tempura is brought to the table piece by piece, fresh from the fryer. This ensures that every bite is at its peak of crispiness, keeping the experience exciting and dynamic throughout the meal. If you’re someone who values fresh, made-to-order dishes, this is where Tempura Takashichi truly shines.

One standout item on the menu is their tempura set, which comes with a variety of seasonal vegetables and seafood, each cooked to perfection. You might find a delicate piece of white fish or perhaps a delicious serving of sweet potato tempura, depending on the season. Paired with a bowl of steaming rice and a light dipping sauce, it’s a meal that encapsulates everything great about Japanese cuisine.

The service at Tempura Takashichi deserves mention too. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, offering insights into the ingredients and preparation methods used in each dish. It’s not uncommon to see the chef himself interacting with guests, sharing his passion for tempura and giving the dining experience a personal touch.

What really impresses about Tempura Takashichi is its balance between tradition and innovation. While they stay true to the classic tempura style, there’s an element of experimentation in the way they approach flavors. For instance, the addition of unique dipping sauces or subtle twists on traditional tempura ingredients makes every visit feel like an exciting adventure. You’re not just getting tempura; you’re experiencing a new take on an age-old dish.

Another noteworthy aspect is the restaurant’s reputation for cleanliness and hygiene. Especially in Japan, where food presentation and cleanliness are highly valued, Tempura Takashichi goes above and beyond to maintain a pristine environment. Every detail, from the neatly arranged plates to the spotless dining area, shows the level of care that the restaurant puts into every aspect of the experience.

The location of Tempura Takashichi is also a draw for visitors. Nestled in Shinjuku, a bustling part of Tokyo, it’s a convenient stop for anyone exploring the city. Whether you’re in the area for sightseeing or just looking for a great meal, this restaurant is perfectly situated for a delicious break in your day. It’s worth noting that while it may not be as widely known as some of the bigger chain restaurants in the area, the loyal following it has built over time speaks volumes about the quality of its food and service.

When it comes to reviews, the consensus is overwhelmingly positive. Customers rave about the quality of the tempura, the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the overall dining experience. Many return again and again, making it a staple for anyone in the know about great tempura in Tokyo. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, you’ll always find something new to appreciate about this exceptional diner.

For those looking for a true taste of authentic tempura, Tempura Takashichi offers an unforgettable dining experience that combines the best of tradition with a modern twist. With its perfect tempura, attentive service, and welcoming atmosphere, it’s no surprise that it’s quickly becoming a favorite spot for tempura lovers in Tokyo.

  • The food was absolutely outstanding! Traditional, homey, and so welcoming. The staff and service are incredible and this is such a lovely spot to get some amazing tempura. They are also very welcoming and kind to foreigners. The menu is in japanese, so see if you can use a translator app if you're not ordering the recommended set menu.

  • -Very valuable lunch of sashimi and tempura together- Lunch meal of the day: tempura set with sashimi 日替わり天ぷら定食 ¥1000- cash only I got shrimp, white fish, squid, sweet potato, daikon radish and oba leaf for tempura and tuna, boiled shrimp and fatty flounder for sashimi. You can enjoy many different ingredients!! They started their business in 1884, it's not the same building unfortunately, but still you can feel their nice cozy atmosphere. Lunch time is short, from 11:30 to 13:30, open Monday to Saturday. If you happen to be around there I recommend it!! Follow me on instagram @tokyo_local_life

  • This tempura restaurant feels very authentic and local, offering a glimpse into everyday Japanese life. I tried their recommended set with tempura and a small sashimi starter. It was decent, nothing extraordinary, but nothing to complain about either. For only around 1,000 yen with such variety, the value for money is outstanding. BTW, they said I English, but actually the fair lady can speak good English about food! Nice.

  • Yes. This is the one. The FIFTH GENERATION tempura master and his wife. Please DO NOT post about it on social media. If “influencers” and ticktock idiocy discover this institution, it would be a sin, a cultural sin. Don’t visit unless you’re already experienced at eating at family tempura kitchens.
